Research interests

My main interests lie in the fields of biodiversity, evolution and biogeography. Through the use of molecular tools I hope to gain insights on the ecology, evolution and diversity of highly unknown species and assist on its conservation.

I am currently working in my dissertation "Diversity of shrews across biogeographical realms" supervised by Jennifer Leonard within the project "Evolution of Biodiversity on the Sunda Shelf". My aim is to evaluate patterns of population structure across the biogeographic break of the Isthmus of Kra, to describe and test levels of diversity in the shrews along altitudinal gradients, and test larger scale biogeographic questions by looking at differentiation across the range of Suncus shrews, from Borneo across Eurasia to Spain and Morocco.

During my bachelor and the previous two years before I started this exciting project I have focused mainly on the ecology of biological invasions and on amphibian ecology & conservation. My previous research experience can be summarized on the following lines:

- Population genetics study on Salamandra algira. Under the supervision of Miguel Vences, Tahar Slimani and Ulrich Joger. University of Braunschweig, Cadi Ayyad University & Natural History Museum of Braunschweig.

- Skeletochronological study on Triturus cristatus and population genetics of Salamandra infraimmaculata. Under the supervision of Alexander Haas & Sebastian Steinfartz. University of Hamburg/University of Braunschweig, Zoological Institute.

- Ecology and genetics of Salamandra infraimmaculata in Northern Israel. Under the supervision of Sebastian Steinfartz & Eliane Küpfer. Technische. Universität Braunschweig, Zoological Institute.

- Diet and fecundity of the Bleak (Alburnus alburnus) among different stages of invasion in the Iberian Peninsula under the supervision of David Almeida and José Manuel Serrano. Department of Ecology, Complutense University of Madrid.

Additionally, I have worked in the Salamandra algira spealea Conservation Program funded by the Mohammed Bin Zayed Foundation, under the supervision of Daniel Escoriza (University of Girona).
